Recruitment Agency Service: How we work…

Many of our assignments are with graduate employers who have an immediate role to fill. We begin by assigning a recruitment consultant based on the job’s requirements. Our consultants each specialise in a small range of subjects. By way of an example, a “Graduate Design Engineer” vacancy would be managed by our Engineering recruitment consultant.

Our graduate recruitment consultants have an in-depth knowledge of their subject area. During an initial briefing call, they can advise their clients on realistic salary levels, the best time of year to fill a role and they can introduce candidates who they know are a strong fit before starting a search. When they do start their search our consultants all have access to UCAS data and can see the student numbers on every UK course, ensuring that they know exactly where to look for candidates during specialist assignments. 

Our USP: What makes us different…

We are regularly asked by companies to explain how we are different from other recruiters and our answer is consistent and simple. Our consultants spend their working week speaking with students from a small number of university subjects and we outspend our competitors to ensure that we can attract candidates from those subjects. Put simply, this means that we can quickly identify a shortlist of candidates who are likely to be the most suitable in the marketplace.

We invest heavily in sourcing candidates, combining digital, on campus and social marketing campaigns. Over 11,800 follow our company on LinkedIn and 2,600 on Twitter. We regularly attend graduate careers fairs and we have established relationships with relevant university departments. We manage the market leading STEM specific website for graduate jobs, subscribe to other sector- specific job boards and have access to over 18,000 graduate CVs on our internal CRM system.

Many of our clients work exclusively with STEM Graduates for technical graduate roles whilst engaging other recruitment agencies to source candidates for more general roles. We typically work on a “fee per placement” basis, meaning that we are only rewarded when we successfully fill a vacancy.


Job Board Services: For direct applications…

Our website ranks highly on search engines for STEM degree related job searches, attracting circa 13,000 visits each month. This helps our agency clients receive suitable CVs, but we are also aware that there are many graduate employers with internal recruitment teams who want access to our website visitors.

We provide a job board service to employers who want to receive traffic and direct applications from current STEM students and recent graduates. This is popular with large employers and can be combined with social media, newsletter and home page banner advertising options.

Improving Diversity: Introducing STEM Women…

According to the ISE (Institute of Student Employers) Annual Survey, improving diversity has become the most pressing issue for graduate employers. Gender diversity is seen as the main challenge, particularly across engineering and technology firms.  According to WISE, just 14% of engineering and 15% of computer science graduates are female.

Since STEM Graduates has been established, we have continually focussed on growing a community of female candidates. This led to the creation of a sister site,  STEM Women , and we then organised community events, so that female job hunters, could hear from inspirational role-models and meet graduate employers. In 2018, over 1,450 female students attended a STEM Women event and we can introduce gender balanced candidate shortlists to all our STEM clients.
