As specialist STEM recruiters we are aware that just 15% of engineering graduates, and 19% of computer science graduates, are female. This presents a challenge for employers seeking a gender balanced workforce.
There are a number of inspiring organisations, such as The WISE Campaign and STEMettes, who are encouraging girls to pursue STEM subjects within Schools and at University. Our site aims to provide content for current University students and recent graduates.
STEM women will produce a variety of content using innovative methods. We will combine video interviews, blogs and promote relevant events. We expect visitors to be inspired by stories from female STEM graduates. The graduates will become role-models to many current students and we are aiming to make the site as interactive as possible.
We will be launching a variety of social media accounts to ensure that content placed on the site can be shared and read across Twitter, Facebook and Youtube. In addition to this we will host a monthly Google Hangout discussion, inviting recent graduates, careers advisors and employers to discuss relevant subjects and respond to questions.
Alongside our content STEMwomen will also document jobs with named employers. Companies posting vacancies on www.stemwomen.co.uk will appear on www.stemgraduates.co.uk and vice-versa. As a consequence employers can expect to receive a more evenly distributed number of applicants from male and female candidates.
