"After my degree I felt an overwhelming need to inspire the next generation of young black girls to become scientists! I want to be that relatable figure in their lives." Channei, Ark Chemistry trainee

By sharing your passion for Science or Maths with young people through fantastic teaching, you’ll be giving them the knowledge and skills they need to broaden their horizons, pursue the subject and wider areas of study. You’ll open up their futures to a vast number of exciting career opportunities.

Who are we?

Ark Teacher Training is an ‘Outstanding’ teacher training programme offering the perfect mixture of theory and classroom practice to develop you into the best teacher you can be. We believe that every child, regardless of their background, deserves to have access to a great education, which is why we work mainly in areas of low income with a history of academic underachievement.

Ark Teacher Training has been hailed 'Outstanding' in all areas by Ofsted. (May, 2022) Ark Teacher Training was inspected under Ofsted's new inspection framework, which has seen many 'outstanding' providers marked down. To date, there are only four providers in the country who have retained this rating.

What will I teach?

We are looking for candidates to train to teach in Maths, Computing, or the Sciences. We need strong teachers in our schools to ensure the best outcomes for our students, so if you think this could be you, apply now!

Where will I teach?

You will be based in an Ark school from September 2022, working there 5 days a week. You can pick the region you want to be based in; London, Birmingham, Portsmouth or Hastings and we will work with you to find a suitable school match within this area.

How is the programme structured?

You’ll be based in a school of your choice from day one, spending the whole academic year watching your students progress. At the end of your training year, you’ll have achieved the following:

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) in your chosen teaching subject

After successfully completing your training year you can progress onto our highly supportive, tailored ECT (early career teacher) programme. We will help you secure an ECT role at your school or at another school in the Ark network and guide you through your first few years of teaching.

What support is available to me during the programme?

“99% of trainees feel their wellbeing is well supported by the Ark Teacher Training team.”

We are committed to providing high-quality professional learning for our teachers. On our teacher training programme, you will benefit from:

  • A two-week summer school so you feel confident before you start in September.
  • Your own Ark Teacher Training tutor.
  • Continuous support throughout your training year and beyond, including an in-school coach and weekly training sessions.
  • Being able to practice teaching strategies before entering the classroom.
  • A curriculum based on leading educational research and a unique focus on subject curriculum.
