Senior Lab Technician

Job Location: Northamptonshire (commutable from Northampton, Brixworth, Kettering, Wellingborough, Corby etc.)
Job Salary: £23-25k Dependent upon experience, opportunities for progression
Job Details: Full Time, permanent

We have a vacancy for a Senior Technician to work on the late shift (10am to 6pm) in our clients CAT team. Working in the general testing team and reporting to our Laboratory Team Leader, the key responsibilities include the following:

  • To assist the Laboratory Team Leader with supervision of the workflow through the Chemistry Laboratory
  • To train technicians in routine testing and instrument analyst roles
  • To carry out primarily non-routine testing to standard procedures
  • Calculate and record results along with other pertinent information in a legible and understandable manner
  • To check results, help technicians with troubleshooting and solving problems
  • Routine analytical equipment maintenance tasks allocated by the Team Leader
  • Working in a safe manner at all times observing risk assessments and wearing appropriate PPE when required
  • Operate in safe manner at all times observing risk assessments and wearing appropriate PPE when required
  • Work safely when cutting and lifting; maintain work areas in a clean and tidy fashion, free from hazard

The successful candidate must be familiar with instrumental analysis techniques, for example GC-MS, ICP and HPLC and demonstrate excellent time management and organisational skills. The successful candidate must have a helpful attitude towards colleagues and customers and the drive to complete tasks on time. With demonstrable experience of team participation, the successful candidate will be highly motivated, reliable and flexible.

Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years' experience working in a Test Laboratory, as well as experience supervising a small team. It is essential that candidates have experience of training staff, a high level of written and oral communication, and good computer skills (Word and Excel). Candidates should also have at least 5 GCSEs, including Maths, English and a science-based subject, preferably Chemistry.
