This is an excellent opportunity for a Biology / Environmental Science graduate to join the Bioprocess and Optimisation team here at Future Biogas where you will assist the Applied Biologist with data collection, report writing, data analysis and sample analysis.

 

Details of the internship

Placement: Fixed term contract for 1 year

Salary: £19,500

Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5:30pm (1 hour unpaid lunch break each day)

Location: Guildford (Future Biogas Ltd, 10-12 Frederick Sanger Road, Guildford, GU2 7YD)

Probation period: 3 months from start date

Notice period: 1 week within probation period, 1 month upon successfully completing probation

Holiday: 25 days holiday & 8 days (would be pro rata depending when candidate joins, as our holiday year runs from January – December)

 
 
Part 1: JOB PROFILE

 

1            MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

Assist the Bioprocess and Optimisation team to capture & view data and develop insights to make data-driven decisions.


2            POSITION IN ORGANISATION:

  • Report to the Applied Biologist
  • Work closely with laboratory team
  • Frequent contact with IT team and production managers
  • Occasional contact with Feedstock Team, Finance and Senior management

3            SCOPE OF JOB:

  • Build reporting templates using tools such as Pi-Vision and Power BI.
  • Improve current automatically generated reports for the lab on JMP (SAS, IBM) and Excel
  • Perform short experiments or analyses in the laboratory

4            DIMENSIONS & LIMITS OF AUTHORITY:

  • Largely proactive with some reactive elements
  • Considerable discretion and independence under general guidance of Applied Biologist
  • Limited direct accountability with errors of some impact
  • Consistently high level of quality of service is required with peaks of pressure

5            QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS LEVEL:

  • Degree in environmental technology, microbiology or another Science field
  • Computer literate. Experience with Power BI and coding preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Laboratory experience during his/her degree
  • Ability to pick up trends is an advantage
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to plan and prioritise complex workloads
  • Willingness to travel within the UK

 

Part 2: DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Build reporting templates

Create ways to pull large amount and diverse types of data and transform them into useful formats for reporting under the supervision of the Bioprocess & Optimisation Team. Reports will focus on Bioprocess/Production but can expand this to Maintenance and SHEQ.

Engage with other teams to help create the database files and reporting templates.

Use mainly Power-BI and Pi-Vision to create data handling and reporting process.

Responsible for data accuracy included in the automatic reports.

 

  1. Improve current automatically generated reports for the lab

Optimise current automatic reporting system from the lab. Learn JMP code (SAS, IBM).

Create reporting templates for the lab.

Encourage the application of the in-house laboratory findings within Future Biogas’ business.

Responsible for data accuracy included in the automatic reports.

 

  1. Perform short experiments or analyses in the lab

Organise samples and perform analyses as required.

Help design and perform experiments.

Retrieve the analyses/experiments data and create bespoke reports.

Responsible for data accuracy included in the experiments’ reports.

 

  1. Contribute to the overall success of Future Biogas

Work collaboratively with other teams to deliver in the best interests of the company.
