Our client is a specialist in the development of vision systems, electromechanical systems, optoelectronics systems used within surveillance and security.
This is a full-time position which carries responsibility for the research and development of company's products and intellectual property. The suitable candidate will have a strong passion to learn and understand all aspects of product design relevant to company's optomechanical and optoelectronics products and equipment. In addition, have knowledge in optics, mechanics and the ability to understand the integration of all these aspects into a system or product which meets the requirement specifications. The candidate will be responsible for developing new products and modify existing ones in-line with the business needs.
Principle Responsibilities
The Opto-Mechanical Engineer will be primarily responsible for doing mechanical and optical design and development, proving and supporting the design during the lifecycle, and assist on a wide range of projects for a varied client base. The industries will include vision systems, electromechanical systems, optoelectronics systems. The role breaks down into three main areas; Development, Research, Others and the responsibilities of each role will typically include, but not be limited to the following:

Development (70%)

  • Develop and test optical and optomechanical systems suitable for manufacturing
  • Learn new materials and technologies
  • Give technical support for new and current applications
  • Attend team meetings
  • Resolve users/clients' issues
  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction

Research (10%)

  • Identifying new technologies which could be exploited by Claresys, either in product design or improved production methods and processes
  • Recognising existing technologies in other markets which could applied to Claresys' markets

Others (20%)

  • Generate suitable design documentation and ensure it is stored in an appropriate manner applying the approved configuration control processes.
  • Help into production when needed
  • Help into daily office tasks

Skills / Experience / Qualifications

  • The applicant should have a postgraduate (Masters) degree in Optical Engineering, Physics similar technology related field.
  • Optical systems design using OpticStudio (ZEMAX)
  • Mechanical design using SolidWorks 3D CAD
  • Being able to test products
  • Being proactive and have good organizational skills
  • Being able to communicate effectively in a written and verbal format
  • Be able to work with team members
  • Being able to meet targets


  • Practical knowledge in manufacturing of optical details as lenses, prisms and mirrors.
  • Mounting optical components like lenses, mirrors, prisms, filters, sensors.
  • Common understanding of mounting principle
  • Common understanding of electromechanical systems
  • Common understanding of electrooptical systems
  • Working with Lab machines and tools
  • Imaging systems
  • Understanding image sensors
  • Other specialised software packages like MatLab and ANSYS
