Our website allows job hunters to visit a single website to see recruitment agency and job board listings.

We typically act as a recruitment agency and conduct a candidate search that is paid for by companies who have asked us to introduce suitable job applicants. You will see that these graduate jobs appear on our website, listing STEM Graduates as the point of contact, and we are responsible for sending the hiring company a shortlist containing the most suitable candidates.

Our website also lists roles with named employers. These companies prefer students and graduates to apply to their positions directly.

Working with a Graduate Recruitment Agency: What to expect

Our recruitment consultants are regularly contacted by companies with a graduate job that they need to fill. These employers, who we regard as our “clients”, often find it hard to identify suitable candidates directly. If you apply for a job through our website or register your details, then you can expect to hear from one of our graduate recruitment consultants every time a relevant job becomes live.

It is important to understand that our recruitment consultants reject candidates who are not able to stand out during the initial application stage. To ensure that you have the best possible chance of getting a job, we would encourage every job applicant to ensure that their CV is well written, that they understand the requirements of each role that they apply for, and that they can describe why they are interested in that job.

Our consultants need to consider the location, salary expectations, technical skills, relevant experience, career goals and interpersonal skills of each candidate before deciding who they forward. They then send their client a manageable shortlist of 5 – 10 candidate CVs. The client often selects 3 or 4 candidates for interview. Our consultants then manage the interview process by scheduling interviews, relaying feedback and negotiating on job offers.

Working with SME Firms: How to access the hidden job market

Many of our assignments are with employers who have an immediate role to fill, and as a result, a high proportion of the vacancies listed on this website are with SMEs (small and medium-sized employers). Such employers are often referred to as the “hidden job market” as they lack the resources to build their brand on campus. According to the Federation of Small Business, SMEs account for 60% of private sector employment within the UK. It can be hard for graduates to find roles with SME firms but specialist recruitment agencies, like STEM Graduates, can introduce these opportunities.

Scientific Recruitment Agency:

The Science desk works with candidates from a life science, physical science or pharmaceutical related degree discipline. In the past year, we have placed candidates that have studied biochemistry, biology, biomedical engineering, bioscience, chemistry, environmental science, forensic science, genetics, horticulture, marine biology, natural science, neuroscience, pharmacy, physics and toxicology.

Technical / IT Recruitment Agency:

Our IT desk focusses on roles that are suitable for candidates from an AI, computer science, data science, IT, quantum or software engineering related degree. We also consider candidates from other STEM subjects who have strong logic and numerical skills along with an interest in technology. A high proportion of the candidates that we place understand a coding language such as C, C++, Java, Javascript, PHP, SQL and .Net Framework.

Engineering Recruitment Agency:

Our engineering desk focussed on positions for graduates who have completed their degree in an aeronautical, aerospace, chemical, civil, electrical, electronic, materials science, mechanical, process or structural related engineering field.

Current Student?

We can assist current University students prepare for their graduate job hunt. Our site lists graduate schemes that are open to applications from final year students along with internships and sandwich year placements. 

From April onwards final-year students are in a position to apply for graduate jobs with an immediate start date. Our team of recruitment consultants are instructed by a wide range of companies to find suitable candidates for their roles. Our recruitment consultants indentify and screen applicants, presenting a shortlist of candidates to the employer. 

Recently Graduated?

Our team of recruitment consultants are renowned for placing graduates into their first permanent job role. We work with a large number of companies who do not advertise their opportunities elsewhere and rely on us to introduce candidates for their vacancies.

The process: We assign a recruitment consultant for each assignment based on the job requirements. Our consultant creates a longlist of suitable applicants, calling them to discuss the position in detail, selecting the strongest graduates and forwarding their CV to the hiring company. Graduate with experience?

Our recruitment consultants regularly work with graduates who are looking to find their “second” graduate role. Graduates who have gained commercial experience are particularly sought after and we introduce these candidates to companies with hiring needs.

We are able to actively market candidates to companies with the candidate’s permission. This works particularly well on our IT desk and we would welcome enquiries from candidates who are in work but would like to hear about other opportunities.
