Mechanical engineers are at the forefront of developing new technologies for a number of industries and are highly sought after throughout the world. Some of the top mechaincal engineering skills sought by employers are the ability to problem solve, to use creativity to overcome challenges, be able to communicate effectively, be able to work as part of a wider team and to have excellent math skills. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and AutoCAD are popular software used to aid mechanical engineers and to create blueprints.  

The starting salaries for mechanical engineers in the UK and for engineers training on graduate schemes are in the range of £20,000 to £28,000. With expereince this can increase to anywhere between £25,000 and £35,000. Salaries increase as engineers progress through mid to senior level where salaries of £60,000+ can be achieved.
